AI Ethics & Safety

Building AI for healthcare carries real responsibility. These principles guide how we design and ship it.

AI in healthcare can extend clinician capacity, reduce administrative burden, and improve access — but only if it is built carefully. A hallucinated finding in a clinical note or a mis-prioritised triage decision is not a cosmetic bug; it is a patient-safety risk. We design every AI feature with that reality at the centre.

Human oversight, always

AI assists; clinicians decide. The tools we build keep a qualified human accountable for clinical decisions and for anything written into the medical record. Documentation is reviewed and signed off; decision support is advisory; triage escalates to humans when uncertain.

Conservative by design

Where outputs affect care, we design for the worst case, not the average case. Triage and patient-facing tools err toward caution and clear escalation, and are built never to discourage someone with warning signs from seeking urgent help.

Grounded and auditable

We ground AI outputs in real clinical context and source data rather than letting models guess, constrain them to standard terminologies where appropriate, and make their reasoning traceable. Faithfulness to the source is a hard requirement, not a nice-to-have.

Fairness and transparency

We are mindful that models can encode bias, and we design, test, and monitor with that in mind, especially for tools that influence care. We are transparent with patients and clinicians about where AI is assisting, and we support meaningful human review.

Privacy as a first principle

Health data is among the most sensitive there is. We minimise the data AI features use, protect it with encryption and access control, govern how it flows to and from models, and prefer de-identified or synthetic data where a use case allows.
